I opened my Etsy Store!!

Yay! It ONLY took me 2 1/2 hours to figure out how to shrink my pictures?! Shame on me! Especially since I used to work in advertising! Alas that was 17 years ago. So My shop doesn't have much in it yet, I'm working on it. But it's FINALLY open YAY!

Chick Picks

We lost 6 chicks. 4 were just too weak. 3 eggs were duds. Ants got into the nest. Miss Priss kicked the babies out of the nest last night sometime. When I went out to check them this morning Priss was under the 2 tier nest box. I was so sad to see just 2 chicks with her. But I heard MUCH more peeping than 2 chicks could possibly make! Deven and I searched everywhere for for them! He'd go outside and hear nothing. We pulled the box off the wall and found a hole they fell thru!. We had to take the siding off the hen house. There we found 4 chicks!!! I set them near Priss hoping she would take them. She clucked at them like they were bad little children for wandering off rofl and then they proceeded to crawl under where it was nice and cozy warm :) Aren't they just the cutest things! They only come out in ones and twos so far. I can't wait till they start following her around like the little ducklings do ;) It's been an eggciting couple of days haha

It's Chickie Day!

I got up this morning and checked the calendar. Yep Miss Priss is going to be a momma. She's been sitting on 15 eggs for 21 days as of today. When I got up this morning to let the chickens out I checked on her. I heard peeping!. So far there there are 5 partially hatched peeping chicks. and she's helping them! As soon as she hears peeping coming from an eggs she pokes a hole or two in in it. 3 of the chicks are half out and I think she's eaten 1/2 of their shells. the ones I saw when she got up to get a drink and stretch her legs were still curled in the shell. They looked black.

Yesterday was a big day

Here is our Birthday boy! He made his own sign LOL Poor thing thought we forgot. As if! What part of "Happy Birthday, you have no school today" did he not hear?! I know he had fun having that no school day haha. He shares his birthday with my mom and dad's Anniversary. I'm really bad with numbers but I think this year was 42 because I will be 40 this year. Ugh! Happy Anniversary!

Can anyone guess his "Code"? At the last minute he put the translation. Tell me if he actually got it right ok? Wait you might not can I cut off some of it. Oh well tell me if what is showing is right. ;-)

Dyeing yarn

Deven and I have been dyeing yarn this week. I have 3 skeins left. They are worsted weight and holding out for baby colors for a friend. I have mainly been doing sock (fingering weight), and 1 Dk (sport) weight. Deven dyed 4 worsted weight for himself. We have mainly been using Wilton cake/icing paste dye. In the past we (all the boys and I) have used "Kool-Aid" type drink powders.

Hmm Why it flipped the picture sideways I do not know... It wasn't that way when I took it. Oh well. These are the yarns we've done so far.

The middle photo is of Deven's work. the neat thing is he had two skeins in his pot each time. Yes those first 2 skeins are from the same dyeing pot! And yet different. The other 2 were done the same way and came out more consisently, but he also chose a different color.


The bottom photo is the same dye as the 3rd hank on the 1st photo. They are slightly different. I think it's because the bottom photo is 30% Silk 70% Merino and the other is 100% Merino. Who knows. It was a lot of fun watching the colors react and change. I can see myself doing more of this more often.

7 more Days till Dereks 16th Bday

Can you believe it! So I have 1 week to get his requested socks done. I am 1 inch into the 2nd sock. I may have to give him an IOU on the Portal Scarf though. Time is just flying bye!!! He doesn't know it but Mom Mom is giving him Drivers Ed for his present. She will pick him up and bring him home from class. Yay Mom Mom! Phillip doesn't have to worry now. Now if I could get him to shave the "Scooby Doo" aka "Shaggy" chin of his.....

Ducks no ducks

Last Saturday I took pictures of Phillip bringing home 2 full grown ducks for the tank. Unloading, wheeling them there, unloading, etc. I just didn't get them uploaded here for the viewing. Last Thursday there was nothing left but a few feathers! They were there Wednesday. I took a picture of them in the tank swimming. That photo is my current Ravelry avatar. (I'm Huggybear there if I haven't mentioned it before.) So it looks like Nature beats us this time. Speculation is the hawks or maybe an owl. Others have said red foxes or raccoons. I personally haven't seen either of the last two but it could be possible. My vote is the hawks. 2 days after the ducks were gone, 3 hawks were swooping the tank like they were looking for more.
